    Almost perfect

    A simple design with a front hook into the laces and a thin elastic cord under the shoe. They fit closely round the ankle and sit tight on the shoe, keeping all the debris out whether on a dry gritty trail or plunging through Lake District bogs. I wouldn't think of doing an Ultra without them, invaluable. BUT... The thin elastic cord under the shoe wears out pretty fast. Some ultra shoes have a defined heel area and a groove or gap they can sit in but most do not and then the elastic may fray and break in a short time, especially if there are tarmac sections. They come with one replacement set with the moulded loop, after that they can be replaced with ordinary narrow cord elastic from a haberdashery department (good luck finding those nowadays). Annoying but not the end of the world. I now keep a spare set of pre-cut and looped elastics in my first aid kit.
