Introducing Matt
Matt Pincus is a climber, climbing coach, and skier based in Wyoming. He moved to Wyoming over a decade ago from New England to pursue bigger mountains and better climbing opportunities around the American West. What he thought was going to be a “two-year max” stay has turned into more than a decade, with no end in sight.
The climbing around Lander Wyoming - where he now lives – is the major reason he decided to stay and doesn’t plan to leave. The climbing and landscapes here are rugged – they take a little bit extra to succeed. For Matt, it’s the perfect home base to live, train, and then travel from.
Matt is primarily a sport climber and boulderer who is passionate climbing the most difficult and highest quality routes and boulders possible. While his climbing passions lie on smaller cliffs and boulders, he balances this out with a love for skiing and ski-mountaineering in the Tetons.

Key achievements
Sport Routes:
“I put a lot of work into my training and preparation for attempting hard sport routes and boulders. While I can’t control the weather, I can control showing up with a kit that doesn’t leave me with any excuses. Whether it’s a warm belay jacket and down pants to keep me warm between attempts on the cold days or the perfect mid layer that doesn’t restrict my movement while climbing, I know my clothing isn’t going to be what prevents me from sending.” - Matt
