‘How do I wash my waterproof jacket?’ A question our customer service team receives on a regular basis. There are a few simple rules to follow which can make it a safe and stress free thing to do. We always recommend that you consult the care labels ahead of any wash or drying process.

GORE-TEX WASHING FAQS
GORE-TEX® is known for its groundbreaking waterproof and breathable product technologies.
Not only are GORE-TEX® garments built to last, they are easy to care for. Routine care will ensure excellent performance and extend their useful life.
How do I prepare my Montane GORE-TEX waterproof Jacket?
Before washing your waterproof jacket, zip the front closure, pockets and pit zips completely, and fasten all flaps and straps.
How do I wash my Montane GORE-TEX waterproof Jacket?
Machine wash on a warm cycle (40º C) using a small amount of liquid detergent. Rinse twice, minimise spinning to reduce creasing. Do not use powder detergents or any products that contain fabric softeners, conditioners, stain removers or bleach as they will affect garment performance. Do not wash with heavily soiled clothing. Do not use chlorine bleach.
Always consult the care labels ahead of a garment wash
How do I reapply the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) to my GORE-TEX waterproof jacket?
A DWR (Durable Water Repellency) is applied to the outside of waterproof fabrics during the manufacturing process. It protects the surface of the fabric from becoming saturated with water and dirt and helps repel light rain. After extended use or laundering you may find that your garment's DWR finish does not function as well as it should.
Your GORE-TEX® item should always be Tumble Dried after washing. Once it is dry, tumble dry your garment for a further 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment on the outer fabric.
If you are unable to tumble dry, iron the dry garment on gentle setting (warm, no steam) by placing a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron. This will help reactivate DWR treatment on your garment’s outer fabric.
When the factory applied treatment can no longer be reactivated, apply a new water-repellent treatment (Montane recommends Nikwax T.X. Direct).
