Over the last couple months, both in UK as well on para-alpinism trips to the Swiss Alps and Italian Dolomites, I’ve been living in my Montane Fireball Jacket. The versatility of the thermo-regulating jacket has been ideal for going light and fast in mountains, either as an outer shell in cool, dry conditions or as a mid-layer underneath a shell jacket when things turn hostile.
On the North faces, it was clear this is a jacket designed for activity, articulated arms and low bulk elastic cuffs allowed me to climb unrestricted. And when moving into the sun, the highly packable insulation was barely noticed when stuffed in a rucksack. Despite being a ‘mid layer jacket’ I found the wind and moisture resistant outer kept me warm when waiting out weather holds on cloudy exits (the less glamours side to para-alpinism).
The Fireball has quickly became my go to jacket for cold-weather adventures in changeable conditions, ideal for belaying or hiking in autumn as well as an essential bit of kit for Alpine adventures.
