These gloves are an ideal 'workhorse' glove for Scottish winter mountaineering. Waterproof, warm and leather palm. Longer gaunlet - great for keeoping snow out of the gloves when plunging ice axes into deep mingy snow in gullies!

I've had these out on three days and already had to stitch a hole, so I wouldn't go so far to call them tough - just the usual standard I'd expect from gloves. I'm not averse to repairing gloves and expect it, but I've had other Montane gloves fair better.
Also, the sizing is very generous - so much so that I've sold my pair on and will buy a size small. They're too big to be able to do anything particularly dexterous (I wear size medium usually but will buy small next time). It would be good to see more consistency in sizing across the glove range.
Waterproofness is average - fingers wetted out after a few hours of rain in the Cairngorms on their first use. They're more water resistant than waterproof, but I never expect true waterproofness from a glove anyway.
On the plus side, they're warm and even after getting some snow into one, after some time it felt like it had dried out. The insulation is good for winter. I like how they cover your whole wrist, too, and the elastic wrist strap is a bonus.

The quality of these gloves looked as you would expect from Montane. But I decided to send them back as the index finger was extraordinarily long and seemed a bit weird. There might have been a reason for this that I wasn't aware of!

I am a member of a MR team in the Peak and use these gloves in the winter when it gets proper wet and chilly. They are super warm and toasty and great to put on when there is a bit of a wait on the hill. Super tough for handling ropes under load. Very happy that they have elastic to keep them attached to me, which has so far stopped me losing one.
