About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Garment and Product Technologist to join our Design and Development team. At Montane we push boundaries in performance, building timeless and versatile product that enables people to achieve their goals in the outdoors. The Garment and Product Technologist will enable Montane to develop the most innovative and highest quality outdoor performance products by working closely with the rest of the Garment and Product Tech’s, and the rest of the Design and Development team to support with the technical production of our products from design to manufacture. The ideal candidate will need to have experience in developing apparel and equipment and a good understanding of sizing, fit, fabric properties, and production processes. They will have exceptional attention to detail, be highly organised, and be able to work at a fast pace and to multiple deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

The Garment and Product Technologist will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring prototypes, samples, and bulk production products across our full range are produced to agreed specifications.
  • Leading fit sessions with designers and evaluating products for fit, quality, and construction.
  • Making sure appropriate construction methods are used for products and reflect the intended end use.
  • Providing detailed fit comments and sample requirements to our factories and suppliers.
  • Maintaining, updating, and issuing size charts and technical trim specifications for products on a seasonal basis.
  • Proactive management of tracking and requesting samples, adhering to a strict timetable, and updating critical paths.
  • Conducting testing of the fabric, trims, and product samples as needed.
  • Working closely with QC on production and pre-production checks and analysing product returns and faults.
  • Maintaining a good awareness of consumer needs and industry clothing trends.

Key Requirements:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • 3+ years’ experience working in garment and product technology.
  • Experience of working on technical, performance clothing.
  • Excellent knowledge of multi-product apparel and equipment.
  • Knowledge of pattern cutting (this is an advantage but not essential)
  • An excellent understanding of garment and equipment manufacturing processes, construction, fit, and quality control procedures.
  • Experience in working with offshore factories/suppliers.
  • Knowledge of PLM systems (this is an advantage yet not essential).
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be personable and able build strong relationships and collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Be able to work collaboratively, talk openly and actively listen.
  • Be conscientious and accurate, with an excellent level of attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to multitask and get things done with a proactive, solution focused approach and a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Have the ability to work well under pressure and deliver to deadlines with strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Have a keen interest in the outdoors.
  • Relevant qualification in clothing and fashion technology (this is an advantage yet not essential).
  • Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft office competency.

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience.
